It's partly the warm water and the soap, but mostly it's the experience of bringing order out of chaos. My favorite time doing the dishes is after Passover or Thanksgiving dinner, when there are lots of different-sized dishes, bowls, cups, glasses, and silverware. I find it very calming to wash everything and put it all in order. But I really dislike ironing. I'm always afraid I'm going to burn myself or burn the clothes. Picking the clothes out of the basket one by one, bringing an orderly symmetry where there was rumpled chaos, stacking them neatly organized by type and family member. I love to fold laundry.
