I saw this posted over at http://landofmysojourn.wordpress.com/

"Better, faster, and no office politics: the company with the autistic specialists. A pioneering company in Denmark is giving people with autism the chance to apply their skills to jobs from IT to product testing. The result is a huge success that's about to be rolled out across Europe."

I think that through the years I have learned to keep my opinion to myself in situations like this. It can be very frustrating though.

I have had a few major blow-ups where I ended up sounding like a complete idiot, and afterwards I was so embarrassed that I could barely come back to work.

What I have the most trouble with is that most people know that something is unfair or misguided, but don't seem to care.

Thank you Anna for the link to the show. I enjoyed listening to it. I am still in the process of reading, watching, and listening to anything and everything that I can find about AS.

Wow wow wow!

I've now listened to the full 52 minutes of this programme, and it is superb.

It manages to present a multitude of different characters all of whom have either AS or another spectrum disorder, including the chap making the programme himself.

It's a sober and well-reasoned look at just what AS is. I highly recommend a listen.

From the quick skim I've just taken (I'll read it in full later when I have time), you may just have pointed me in the direction of something that is far more useful than you realise.

Thank you! I'll explain more in time...

Leica/Rachel,

Some interesting points there.

Could it be a learnt behaviour? Yes, it could. At this point in time I don't think it is though.

I have nothing in my past that suggests that my point of view was ever squashed in anything like the way you experienced, Leica. Indeed, I've always had a tendency to speak my mind in inappropriate ways as far back as I can remember. That doesn't make your view-point any less valid though Leica.

Ultimately, I have no real way of knowing if this sort of trait is AS in origin or not. It feels AS to me though. I appreciate that might sound strange - but I've kind of got to a place where I can see my differences from the norm quite distinctly, and they are all now starting (rightly or wrongly) to get tarred by me with the AS brush. That's one of the reasons that I've been talking about a lot of them recently. I want to find out whether anyone else has similar experiences.

It's good to hear about everyone's opinions - thanks for sharing them.

I can't speak for James, but in my case, it's not learned behavior, because I'm not intolerant of differences of opinion. In fact, I enjoy diversity of outlook and generally feel unsafe in homogeneous groups in which everybody agrees on everything. Plus, half a lifetime of therapy has never rooted out my outrage when injustices happen, and I think that's a very good thing.

The difficulty for me, as far as "fitting in" goes, is that I go directly from problem to solution while everyone else is going through all kinds of social niceties that mystify me. That's part of my AS.
