Diagnosed

Just a very quick post to confirm that I went for my diagnostic assessment yesterday.

Verdict: I have Asperger’s Syndrome

More later, when I’ve had a chance to think about it all.

Congratulations on your “D” day. I had mine a few weeks a go brought about largely from reading your blog back during the week before Christmas last year and putting all the pieces together. I was already fairly depressed at the time and the realisation both sent me into a tailspin and gave me something to cling on to to pull myself out of it.
It’s great when you finally have the answer for all your past difficulties, but at the same time the realisation that it is never going to change, you’ll never be able to experiance a social occasion in the same way as others do puts a bit of a dampener on things.
Anyway I really wanted to thank you for everything you’ve been doing here. You certainly helped me a lot and I expect a number of others as well.

      Edward,

I’m sorry it has taken me so long to respond.

Thank you for your very kind words. It never fails to surprise me when someone says that they have found this blog useful – it really wasn’t something that I expected when I started writing it.

In many ways I have already been through the process of realisation that I have AS, and that I will always see the world in a different way to most people. That, for the most part happened way before the diagnosis. In many ways, I feel no different now than I did before.

Hopefully the written report will arrive this week, and that will start things moving forward again. I just don’t know what direction that we be in as yet, though.

      Best regards,

      James

      Hi Anna,

Yes – I think most of the hard times were months and months ago. The diagnosis just really made things official.

Now my thoughts are turning to where things go from here…

      Adelaide,

      Thanks!
I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t a relief!
